Keeping your leather like new – Leather Cleaning

We recently sent Jai out to clean a leather lounge for a client located in Taringa, a suburb in the West of Brisbane. The leather had not been cleaned in quite a while. The customer has kids and animals so the leather lounge had been subjected to a fair amount of wear and tear over the years. Unfortunately it was white leather, well it was supposed to be white anyway. As you can see from the picture below it was not white, it had become almost a light brown.P1000590 300x225 Keeping your leather like new Leather Cleaning

When leather is not maintained it loses its protection. This exposes the leather to the harsh environment of everyday wear and tear and you will not get the life out of your leather that you should. By adopting a routine care and maintenance plan for protected leathers, you will help keep the leather clean and the surface protected and thus helping the leather to meet your expectations.

Jai spent a good couple of hours fully cleaning the lounge with our Leather Master Soft Cleaner and then reprotecting the lounge with a Leather Master Protection Cream. As you can see from the before and after pictures (one cushion in each picture is before and one cushion is after) all of Jai’s hard work has paid off and the customer could P1000587 300x225 Keeping your leather like new Leather Cleaningnot have been more happy with the result. We have highly recommended that the customer maintains the leather by getting the leather cleaned every 6 months as the leather sees so much wear. This will ensure the customer gets the most life and value out of her lounge.

Maintenance within the home…

These days we are so busy with work, kids, pets and our day to day lives, we forget to maintain items within our home.

Having a proactive maintenance schedule for the home is a way to help prolong the life of your carpet, upholstery and rugs and make it a more safe and healthy environment.  Most times we won’t call to get our carpets done until they start to look dirty and there are traffic marks in the carpet.  Or unless something is spilled on the upholstery or there is change in colour to the leather, is when we call in the professionals.

home maintenance 300x246 Maintenance within the home...It is recommended to clean your carpets and upholstery every 12-18 months.  By vacuuming regularly (at least once per week) this will remove any loose soiling or dust within the carpet fibres.  By not doing this, the soil alone in the carpet will cause damage and abrasion to the fibre and wear it down very quickly, making your carpets look worn and tired.  Maintaining your carpets and upholstery is very similar to maintaining your teeth.  Regular check-ups at the dentist with regular cleaning will incur small interval costs as opposed to a large cost for a root canal after 5 years of not maintaining your teeth.   By maintaining your carpet and upholstery with interval cleaning throughout the year will prolong the life of the fibre, which will save you money in the end.

Some of our clients book to have their carpets, leather or fabric upholstery cleaned every 6 months.  Some of these items are 8-10 years of age but look brand new! So there is certainly some benefit to maintaining these items regularly.

Besides the asthetic or monetery benefits, there is also the health benefits.  Our trained technicians can also offer information as to further treatments that are available, such as antimicrobial treatments.  This treatment is effective for bacteria caused from dirt buildup, pets, sweat or vomit.

Give us a call to book in a service , to get your home health checkup today!

Do you own a boat or camper van? All Aces Services can tailor a cleaning package suitable to your vessel.

boat cleaning Own boat, superyacht or campervan? We clean and protect carpets, vinyl, leather on any size boat or camper van, whether it be in the water off road.  We have done jobs at Rivergate, Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, Gold Coast Marina and many more.  Typical cleaning that we do involves cleaning around air conditioning vents as filtration marks form, red wine stain removal from parties on board… And mattresses too. Blind cleaning and curtain cleaning is also available.  Other items we clean on board range from lamp shades, quilt covers and cushions.

As most seating areas are removable, these can be done onsite or these can be done at our factory located at Morningside.

As much of the carpet and upholstery onboard your boat is exposed to the elements such as sunlight and salt water, it is important to maintain them by cleaning and protecting them regularly.  The harsh UV rays can discolour and deteriorate fabric, leather vinyl and some carpets too.

Whether it be early morning cleaning or on a weekend we are flexible when other maintenace is being completed on board.

We are members of the Super Yacht Base Brisbane.  We have been members for the last two years and have worked on small boats to large yachts, to large super yachts.  Some super yachts that we have worked on have been valued at over $100 Million Dollars.  The use of protective equipment is a must as well as having certifications in order to clean such expensive items.  All our technicians are trained and certified through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning of Restoration.  Our experienced technicians are trained in Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Rug Cleaning, Hard Surface Cleaning, Drapery Cleaning and Water Damage Restoration.

Leather Cleaning

Maintaining your leather upholstery will prolong the life and feel of your leather. Leather Cleaning products are available, and should be used every change of season. The products which you buy from the retailers are to be used as a maintenance process to maintain your leather. The products used by certified trained operators are more aggressive and remove a lot more of the oily residue that those maintenance cleaners can not remove. Recommendation for leather cleaning is 12 to 18 months between professional cares. We are trained and qualified through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification and through Leather Master Australia. Cleaning and protection should go hand in hand. Identifying the type of leather also is very important. There are different types of leather and therefore different types of cleaners available. 95% of our market is protected leather.leather couch 300x212 Leather Cleaning

Protected leather has a polyurethane coating to protect the protected leather which is very porous. Then the leather protection cream is applied to protect the polyurethane coating. Oils and abrasions wear down this protection cream over time and then start to wear down the polyurethane coating. If the polyurethane coating wears out, you are left with the dirt inside the colour of the protected leather and this is when you start to need a restoration process. The leather cleaning and restoration process requires stripping the leather back and re-dyeing then re-coating.
