Paint Removal from Carpet – Carpet Stain Removal

A very distressed customer from Carina in Brisbane called us after a home improvement accident in the home had occurred on his carpet.blue paint 300x263 Paint Removal from Carpet Carpet Stain Removal

The challenge : Cream coloured Acrylic Carpet vs Blue Paint

While painting an area within the home, paint had accidentally leaked across the carpet.  Approximately 30 spots of water based paint had dripped over the carpet.  We attended to the property within 1 hour of receiving the call.  The paint spots had hardened and dried into small balls in the fibre.

By rinsing the affected area, this began to moisten the paint in the carpet fibers. By using a spray bottle with warm water and focusing on the more difficult spots, dwelling time allowed the paint to soften and be extracted from the carpet. More spots proved to be more difficult than others due to the amount of paint, but with a lot of patience and persistence, all the paint spots were removed.

Our customer did the best thing you could do in a situation such as this, he called a professional.  By not attempting to remove the paint himself or agitate the spots by rubbing at them and potentially causing more damage, we were able to remove the paint out of the carpet 100%.

If you have a stain emergency in Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast, contact All Aces Services immediately or call us on 1800 00 1010. We are here to help with your spot and stain removal.

Rug Cleaning Tips: Quality of Rugs

May 25, 2011

You are at a rug store looking for the final piece to decorate your home. There are so many rugs to choose from. You want quality and style and you would like all your visitors to comment on how wonderful your rug looks. Viscose, wool, art silk, rayon, polypropylene, polyester, acrylic….. OH GOSH what actually are all of these fibres and what is actually a good quality rug?

Polypropylene/olefin – The cheapest on the market, they are as good as a door mat. They are, however, easy to clean and great for the kids to play on.

Acrylic – Looks like wool, wants to be wool, but don’t be fooled as acrylic rugs lose their appearance over time and coarsen with age.

Viscose / art silk / rayon – Sneaky salesmen say this is silk, will tell you it’s silk and charge you as if it is silk. DON”T GET RIPPED OFF. It is cheap and nasty and can be made from any substance like wood pulp, crab shells or paper. It may look fantastic but the quality is quite poor.

Silk – Soft and smooth, very expensive, looks beautiful and is very appealing to the eye. Handed knotted rugs, especially Persian rugs, will hold their value and depending on the age can also be a great investment.Quality Rugs Regal Ivory Chocolate Contemporary Rug Rug Cleaning Tips: Quality of Rugs

Wool – High resiliency and the ability of the pile to withstand abrasion throughout the life of a rug. A 100% woollen rug is good quality and if it is protected and cleaned professionally every year it will out live any cheap rug that is on the market.

Once you have purchased the final piece to decorate your home, we recommend that the rug be cleaned professionally once a year. If you do purchase a quality woollen rug please have it protected immediately to protect the fibre from unwanted stains.

Carpet Cleaning Services: Take a look at our Consumer Guides

So you’re doing the ring around trying to find a company that can do your carpet cleaning in Brisbane, on the Sunshine Coast or on the Gold Coast. You’ve probably rung a handful of companies and not surprisingly received a price in less than 10 seconds. But how can they establish what you need when they haven’t even asked any questions? Have they explained their qualifications? Do they have any qualifications? Will they offer you a guarantee? What if they leave your carpet looking nice and then a few days, weeks or months later it looks dirty again? Will they come back? Do they have the best equipment on offer? Do they have a Truck mount that provides high temperature and better suction? What if you have stains i.e red wine, urine? Are they experienced in stain removal?  These are all questions that need to be addressed.

We were recently contacted by a customer in one of the northern suburbs who had visitors arriving on the following weekend. Her lounge had a quite a severe urine odour; we wanted to offer her the best available service with our most experienced technicians as urine is quite a complex problem to deal with. Due to such a high demand of our quality services our technicians were booked out to the following week. I asked the customer questions and established that the lounge had been cleaned before by another company and that she was not satisfied as the odour had come back straight away and they didn’t come back to reclean it for her. Subsequently she chose a cheaper company again because she wanted it done before the weekend. Unfortunately we do have a lot of customers who do this and months down the track will contact us again to reclean it for them quite upset that they have wasted their money on poor service by another company offering a cheap deal without the correct qualifications or equipment.

Cleaning cleaning results 005 300x225 Rug Cleaning at All Aces ServicesA customer from Springwood brought in their rug for cleaning. We went through the pre inspection, identifying all of the stains and concerns the customer had with their rug. We identified the colour as grey to which the customer agreed.

First we used the Rug Badger and vacuumed the rug to remove all of the dry soiling from the rug.

We then applied a specialised cleaning solution which is applied hot.

Using high heat and extraction we started cleaning the rug. To our amazement the rug was not actually grey in colour – it was an off white. We could not believe our eyes. We cleaned the rug twice and achieved fantastic results. Please take a look the photos whilst we where cleaning.

The rug was finally completed and we contacted the customer to come and pick up the rug. I think he nearly fell over with shock as he didn’t realise what colour his rug actually was, he was so impressed he was lost for words.

Cleaning cleaning results 007 300x225 Rug Cleaning at All Aces ServicesSo when was the last time you cleaned your rug?

You will be amazed how much dirt and soiling gets trapped in your rugs. Regular vacuuming may not be good enough unless you have an upright HEPA filter vacuum cleaner. Inspect your rugs by getting down on your hands and knees and also check whether they have a smell. You should maintain your rugs by getting them professionally cleaned once a year.

How clean is your mattress

March 15, 2011

You have had a long day at work you’re not feeling well.  You are tired and run down and all you want is a good night’s sleep.  You always see on TV and read in magazines about the debate on which is good for you : too much or too little sleep.  The real question that should be asked : is your mattress healthy to sleep on?

Every night the human body loses approximately 1 litre of body fluid through the skin, pores and mouth as well as millions of skin flakes.  Just think of it this way, we all have showers each day, we all wash our clothes, what about the mattress?  How many bugs and germs does our mattress contain?

A mattress that is not protected with a cover will have an infestation of dust mites within 3 months.  Not only dust mites but body oils, sweat, fats and DEAD SKIN – gross!  We recently got called to a job where the owner had rented out his fully furnished unit in New Farm.  The tenants had never picked up a broom or a vacuum cleaner once during their stay.

He generously supplied the tenants with a brand new mattress protector – which they kept neatly in the cupboard in the original packaging for the 2 years.  Our technician arrived and he had two queen size and two single mattresses.  Well lets say, who knows if they even put sheets on the bed.Humanurineandbloodonmattress20004small 300x224 How clean is your mattress

There were:

  • Urine stains
  • Blood stains
  • Food Stains
  • Drink stains
  • Body odour
  • Oils
  • Fats

You can see for yourself by just taking a look at the photos.Humanurineandbloodonmattress20001small 300x224 How clean is your mattress

Humanurineandbloodonmattress20011small 300x224 How clean is your mattress

Unfortunately these mattresses were not able to be restored so this owner lost a lot of money due to the tenant not using the protectors and not having the mattress cleaned frequently.

It is recommended that every time you change your sheets you should be vacuuming your mattress at the same time.  You should have your mattress cleaned every year and treated for dust mites.

You spend approximately one third of your life in your bed, so it makes good sense to keep them clean.  Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite!

Know all the facts about your carpet

February 25, 2011

You’ve gone through the long process of choosing just the right colour, fibre and construction of your carpet.  The installer has spent a whole day in your home and you finally have your beautiful, brand new flooring installed.  But what is that smell?  And are those wrinkles in the carpet?

The following list describes some of the biggest problems carpet owners run into, along with some practical solutions.

Purchasing new carpet

Shedding – Some types of carpets will shed balls of “fluff” throughout their first year.  This is normal and should not be a cause for concern, since these balls are generally too large to become airborne.  Shedding occurs when a tuft happens to rise above the pile of the carpet.  Sprouting is also common during the first year, but can also occur throughout the life of the carpet.

Solution :  Carpet should gradually stop shedding after one year.  Vacuum regularly to shorten the amount of time your carpet sheds.  If you find a sprouting carpet tuft, cut it to size with a pair of scissors.  You could damage your carpet if you try to vacuum or pull at the tuft.

Wrinkles and Buckles – If carpet is improperly installed, it may ripple, buckle or wrinkle.  This is not normal, and should immediately be corrected.

Solution : Contact your carpet installer and have them fix your carpet by using a power stretcher.  It is best to check for defects before the installer leaves to make corrections easier.  Do not let anyone tell you that wrinkles or buckles are normal.

Long-term Carpet Problems

Crushing – Over time, foot traffic and heavy furniture can crush carpet fibres.  While a certain amount of crushing is normal for all types of carpets, some carpets like acrylic can be crushed more easily than others.

Solution : You can fight carpet crushing by vacuuming heavy traffic areas often.  You’ll also want to move heavy furniture a few inches on a regular basis or put down protective tabs and foam blocks.

Colour Loss – Fading, colour loss and yellowing can be caused by several factors including sunlight, gases passing over the surface of the carpet and cleaning chemicals.

Solution : Protect your carpet from fading and yellowing by keeping it away from dangerous chemicals and shielding it from UV radiation.  You should also invest in window drapes, colourfast carpet or even UV window protection.  Make sure you protect your carpet from colour loss, because it is usually impossible to reverse.

Staining – Stains can occur even in carpet that is generally resistant to staining and soiling.  Treat all stains as quickly as possible for best results.

Solution : Contact All Aces Services on 1800 00 1010 as soon as a stain appears.  Chemicals at your local supermarket may cause more damage to your carpet.  All of our staff are trained through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration, so we can identify your carpet fibre, identify those stains and do expert stain removal.carpet Know all the facts about your carpet

Blood Stain Removal

February 8, 2011

We recently had a client from Camp Hill who rang us very distressed as his mum had had an accident and there was blood all over her single mattress and on the carpet.  He was worried that not only did he have the stress of his mother being in hospital but he thought he would have to replace the mattress and the carpet for when his mother did return from the hospital.  As you can see from the “before” photo, the carpet and the mattress were in a bit of a mess.

The best thing the customer had done was not to try and use any carpet cleaning or stain removal products from the supermarket.  If customers do use other products on stains it can set the stain and hinder how well our products do work.  All of our technicians are trained and qualified through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification.  This allows our technicians to provide expert stain removal and fibre identification.

If you follow this link to the Stain Removal page on our website, you can watch a video of our technicians in action.

We sent one of our most experienced technicians out to do the job.  With his professional stain removal kit he removed the stains.  The stains did take a couple of hours but they were removed 100% as you can see from the pictures.  The customer was over the moon as we saved him from having to buy a new mattress and installing new carpet.

Things to remember when you have a similar situation:

  • Don’t use products from the supermarkets.  These products are not designed for all types of carpets and can react with your stain.
  • Don’t use home remedies as they can also react with your stain.
  • Leave your stain to the professionals – this can save you money and stress.

Art Silk – Pretty… but Practical?

January 31, 2011

These days we are seeing a lot of new fibres being manufactured into carpet and designer rugs.  One fibre that is commonly seen in designer rugs is Art Silk (Rayon).  Art Silk should not be confused with the natural protein fibre that is commonly woven into extravagant textiles,  Art Silk is a man made fibre.  Art Silk is made from Viscose, an organic liquid that starts out as woody pulp.  The finish on Art Silk gives a nice sheen, an added elegance to the finish on the perfect floor rug for the lounge, but is it the most practical fibre?

Over the last few weeks, a large number of rugs have arrived at our factory at Murarrie for cleaning.  Many of them contain viscose.  They are looking tired, worn and lacking life in the fibre.  As viscose /rayon is  bi-product of cotton, it tends to yellow or brown due to moisture.  By ‘wet’ cleaning this fibre, it will cause blossoming to the tip causing irreversible damage.  The fibre doesn’t tend to hold dye very well and can lose colour on the first cleaning.artsilk1 Art Silk Pretty... but Practical?

Prices of these rugs can vary from a few hundred dollars into the thousands when custom made.  Is it worthwhile buying this fibre due to its asthetic benefits?  Probably not.  A good quality woollen rug will outlast and be a more practical choice for the home or office.

Should you spill anything on your viscose rug, avoid adding water or any high alkaline product such as bi-carb of soda.  Call a professional to assist and advise you on the best methods of cleaning your rug – as hasty home remedies will cause more of a headache, or a very costly lesson.

Art Silk….Pretty indeed… but very unpractical!!
